I don't have enough time for therapy.

Therapy intensives are a great option for the "not enough time for therapy" problem. For people with tight schedules, we can get a lot done in a short period of time. Each 90-minute intensive block is equal to two standard sessions, making biweekly treatment more effective.

Depending on your treatment needs, we may be able to stack customized intensive therapy blocks (two or more 90-minute blocks over one to two days) to make a lot of progress on your concerns in a very short period of time.

For people who need more time to think, to feel, and to process, standard sessions can feel very rushed. A 90-minute intensive block gives that space to get the work done without the work being cut off too soon..

Therapy intensives are different

A therapy intensive is a longer, highly focused therapy session (or series of sessions) designed to help you make significant progress in a short period of time. Instead of meeting weekly for 50 minutes, therapy intensives involve extended sessions over one or multiple days, allowing for a deeper dive into your specific challenges.

Depending on your specific treatment needs, a therapy intensive can function more like a workshop or retreat—designed to fast-track your healing by providing dedicated time to work through challenges, uninterrupted.

Let's fast-track feeling better.

Therapy intensives can be a great way to speed up ongoing therapy or to bundle together into a two- or four-block therapy tsunami. I've had clients regularly use 90-minute sessions every two or three weeks instead of 50-minute weekly sessions because that fits their schedule or their processing style better. I've had clients schedule an intensive block to focus on processing a really big concern that needed extra time or to add EMDR to their regular treatment.

For certain clients and situations, a highly customized two- or four-block series of intensive sessions scheduled over one or two days can create lasting relief from emotional dysregulation in an incredibly short period of time. These work best for clients who are committed to the process and have a specific area they want to work on, such as one emotion (anxiety, anger, etc.), one relationship (parent, ex, etc.), or one class of trauma (medical, toxic workplace, etc.).

Is Intensive Therapy Right For You?

Your schedule doesn't allow for weekly sessions but you still want to make significant forward progress on your therapy goals.

You need more time to think, feel, and discuss your stuff. There's no way 50 minutes is long enough!

You have one specific area you want to focus on and you are ready for a therapy tsunami of two to four intensive blocks.

Let's talk about a therapy intensives if:

Just the thought of facing your stuff makes you break out in a cold sweat. Regular sessions let us pace out the work to make it more manageable if it makes you nervous.
You are not committed to big change. If you are ambivalent about change, you will not get as much out of an intensive. Ongoing therapy may more effectively allow us to manage that ambivalence.
If you are actively suicidal, manic/hypomanic, or have dissociative disorder with complete memory loss, regular sessions will be more effective.

Therapy intensives may not be right for you if:
