How much does individual therapy cost and do you accept insurance? The initial assessment last 90 minutes and is $300. Individual weekly or biweekly sessions cost $200. I offer monthly sessions or occasional check-ins as needed for established clients who have met their therapy goals. I also offer therapy intensives for individuals. Therapy intensives are highly customized and cost $300 per 90 minute block of treatment. Depending on your needs, we may complete one to four blocks over the course of one or two days. I do not accept insurance. I can provide you with a superbill (a fancy receipt) so you can request out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance. Out-of-network benefits can reimburse anywhere from $0 to about $80 or more per session, so it is important to talk to your insurance company about how this might work for you. I accept all credit and debit cards, HSA and FSA cards if you have one of these accounts, and cash. For more information about the investment in therapy, click here.
-
What is your cancellation policy? You can cancel or reschedule an intake or an individual session with no charge up to 24 hours ahead appointment (so, if your appointment is at 3pm on Monday, you have until 3pm on Sunday to cancel). All clients get one "freebie" for missing this window. Things happen! For illness and other concerns, I will try to work with you. Please don't come to session sick! We can reschedule or use video. I will charge for ALL no call/no shows after you've used your "freebie." Cancellation policies for Coordinated Couples Counseling and therapy intensives are slightly different. Please see those sections for more information.

What can I expect in an initial consultation? The initial consultation via phone gives us a chance to chat and determine if I would be a good fit for your needs. I'll ask for a brief description of what brings you to therapy and get an initial sense of your goals. You can ask any questions you have about me, about therapy with me, or about therapy itself. If we both decide it is a good fit, we will schedule your first appointment. If it's not a good fit, I will provide you with additional referrals if you need them.

What can I expect in the first appointment/the assessment?Once we schedule your first appointment, you will get an email with access to my client portal, where you can complete your paperwork. All clients go through this initial assessment appointment, whether I will be seeing you weekly/biweekly or for a therapy intensive. I do not have clients complete a lengthy intake form and instead go over all questions about your history, your concerns, and goals in person. This allows me to really get to know your needs instead of skimming a form. Plus, the 90-minute assessment gives us extra time to set you up for therapy success.
-
How long are sessions and how many sessions will I need?Weekly and biweekly sessions last 50 minutes and the number of sessions necessary to meet your goals will depend on where you begin and where you want to go. Therapy intensives work on 90-minute blocks. The total number of blocks needed is highly dependent on your specific situation. Please feel free to ask me about this during consultation or at any time during our work together.

What is your approach to couples counseling?I work with a personal friend and outstanding therapist, Kaitlyn Lickteig, to provide a fair and effective approach to couples counseling. Each partner commits to individual therapy with either Kaitlyn or myself and signs a release of information so Kaitlyn and I can discuss your care as it applies to the relationship. We schedule joint intensives with both partners and both therapists present to work through major relationship issues. Our approach is unique, and it works! Learn more about Coordinated Couples Counseling here.
-
How do you decide which partner goes to which therapist? This usually becomes clear during the initial consultation, but if for some reason it does not, Kaitlyn and I will discuss each partner's goals and therapy needs and then determine which of us will be the best fit.

How much does Coordinated Couples Counseling cost?We specifically designed Coordinated Couples Counseling to be less expensive than the traditional "yours, mine, and ours" approach, with each individual meeting weekly with their own therapist and then the couple meeting weekly with a couples therapist. Generally, our couples clients see their individual therapist every other week (so Partner 1 sees Whit in week 1, Partner 2 sees Kaitlyn in week 2). This depends on each partners' individual needs, but it has usually worked out like this. There is a $75/month fee for each partner to cover the time and costs of our ongoing coordination. Joint therapy intensives are scheduled every two to three months or as needed and cost $600 per 90-minute block. These intensives allow us to work through the toughest issues a couple may facing in a focused and effective way. Learn more about Coordinated Couples Counseling here.
